Spring Decorating

While some days it may not feel like it, spring is officially in motion and summer is quickly approaching. Now is the perfect time to get your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks decorated for the warmer months ahead. The Lake truly comes alive in the spring and your home should reflect that. If you need a little help decorating or sprucing up your home, Mission Bay has a few tips on how to help bring spring into your home.

Spruce Up Your Deck & Outdoor Space

Spring is a great time to spend your days and nights enjoying your outdoor space. Make sure it's a place you want to be. When decorating your home for spring, be sure to include your deck and any patios. Add some plants and flowers to make it really feel like spring has sprung. It may also be a good idea to replace the seat cushions on your deck chairs, especially if they have been left out over the winter season. You can even get creative and add some fun string lights to give you extra lighting when you’re spending your evenings outdoors.

Eliminate Distracting Decorations

While this may seem like the opposite of what you should do, there's nothing that makes your home feel lighter than eliminating any clutter. The weather can't make up its mind right now, so this is the perfect task to do during a cloudy and chilly day. Decluttering allows you to focus your attention on the decor you have. When putting things away, think outside the box. It doesn't have to all be in plastic containers, you can use a variety of baskets, peg rails, and hooks.

Bring In Some Spring Color

Spring is the best time to introduce color into your home. Soft blues, pastel pinks and hints of lavender are all perfect spring colors to add to your decor. Use these spring colors by adding a light blanket or pillow on the couch, or add new wall decor in the living room. You don’t have to paint walls in your house and buy all new furniture. When you have a neutral color scheme, adding in pops of color for the different seasons is an easy task.

Add Fresh Flowers

Flowers all around the outside of your house are blooming, so why not bring some of those flowers indoors? Fresh flowers add life to a dull room and can brighten up any space. Place some fresh cut, spring flowers in a beautiful vase and place them in the kitchen, living room, bedroom or deck. Don’t forget about your front door! Wreaths aren't just for the holidays. Greet guests with a beautiful fresh wreath.

Spring Linens & Throws

One of the best ways to transition your home through the seasons is by changing the linens throughout your home. Switch your bedsheets from flannel to cotton and switch out your throw blankets and pillows for light, spring colored ones. It's an instant spring fix! Don’t neglect the bathroom and kitchen though! You can replace the hand towels in your kitchen and bathroom with lightweight and colorful ones for spring. Small changes can have a big impact on your space.

Preparing Your Home For Spring

Even though 6 more weeks of winter was predicted, spring will be here before we know it - thank goodness! For most homeowners, spring is an exciting time when they get to start opening up and preparing their home for the warmer months. During the cold and winter months, many maintenance tasks are neglected and your home is all sealed up. Mission Bay knows that from the inside to the exterior, getting your home ready for spring can seem like a daunting task. If you’re planning on getting your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks ready for the warmer months over the next few weeks, it will help ease any stress to space out your maintenance projects. Check out some of our recommendations below!

Focus on the Exterior

The outside of our homes have to deal directly with the harsh weather throughout the winter months. Because of this, there is more wear and tear on the exterior than the interior. Do a quick walk around your home to examine the caulking around the doors and windows. You can also check open windows and doors to look at the weather stripping. It’s important to replace old caulk and replace the weather stripping. You should also inspect the roof for any broken or missing shingles or tiles. This is also a great time to clean out gutters and downspouts. Leaves, twigs, and other debris can collect and cause a backup in the gutters if and when it rains.

Landscaping Tips

It may be a little too early to start planting new flowers and watering your lawn, but it isn’t too early to ensure that you will have green grass, your hoses will be ready, and your walkways are clean and clear. Now is a good time to replace old or cracked garden hoses, rake away dead leaves, and clear debris and twigs from walkways and planter beds. It's also a great time to start planning out your spring landscaping ideas. When the weather starts to warm up, you should pressure wash concrete and paver areas that have become dirty.

Turn Your Attention To The Indoors

You should have your HVAC system serviced twice a year. Those two times include spring and fall. You want to have routine maintenance done during these two seasons because it’s right before any harsh climate changes take place. You should also change the air filter in your system.

Spring Cleaning

Now is a great time to clean your windows both inside and outside. You may be surprised how much more natural light comes through your windows once they have been cleaned. You should also clean and dust ceiling fans, and clean out your fireplace if you used it during the winter months. Test your emergency systems in your home. Things like smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, your home alarm, and fire extinguisher should be checked.

Spring Is On Its Way

Spring is just around the corner, and Mission Bay wants to make sure that you are ahead of the game with getting your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks ready for the warmer weather. Once the warm weather rolls around, time will be spent outdoors and out on the Lake, as it should be, so it’s important to get your spring maintenance done early!

Enjoy The Weather This Weekend

The weather is supposed to warm up towards the end of the week and that means it’s time to get outdoors and thaw out. The weather this winter has been freezing so the warmer weather will be welcomed with open arms. Even though spring is still a few weeks away, we will get a glimpse of it towards the end of this week and this weekend. If you live at Mission Bay at the Lake of the Ozarks, you’ll definitely want to get out and enjoy the warm weather while you can. Check out this list of a few activities you can do at the Lake of the Ozarks to enjoy this warmer than freezing weather.

Get Out and Go Hiking

There are many walking and hiking trails at the Lake of the Ozarks. The area is home to several state parks that have many trails for visitors to enjoy. Although winter isn't typically the ideal time to go hiking, with the beautiful weather in the forecast, you won't want to miss an opportunity to go exploring and enjoy the outdoors. Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Lake of the Ozark State Parks both have several trails, so depending on what terrain or length you are wanting to hike, there is something for everyone.

Shop Until You Drop

Lake of the Ozarks is a paradise for those who love to shop. Whether you're browsing or buying, there are many stores for shoppers to visit. From designer stores to small boutiques, the Lake has it all. Many of the shopping centers are open-air, so you can still enjoy the beautiful weather while getting some shopping done. If antique shopping is more your style, there are many antique stores located throughout the Lake of the Ozarks. Many of them even benefit the local community.

Get Out on The Lake and Fish

The Lake of the Ozarks is home to some of the best fishing in the country. With 54,000 acres and over 1,150 miles of shoreline, there is no shortage of great spots to catch some fish. You can find largemouth bass, spotted bass, black and white crappie, blue catfish, channel catfish, flathead catfish, white bass, hybrid stripers, paddlefish, walleye and bluegill in the Lake depending on the season. No matter the season, it's always a great time to go fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Holiday Traditions

Are you going to be celebrating Christmas at your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks? Whether your home at Mission Bay is your permanent home or your second home, it creates the perfect backdrop for holding any holiday get together. At Mission Bay, you also have access to the clubhouse and indoor pool. Check out these great holiday traditions you and your family are sure to love!

Make hot cocoa and drive around and look at Christmas lights.

Christmas lights are full of holiday cheer. Getting into the holiday spirit with Christmas lights is a great event for the whole family. You can make an entire night out of it by making (or buying) hot chocolate and driving around through different neighborhoods or light shows looking at all of the magical lights.

Give matching pajamas for every family member on Christmas Eve.

Having matching pajamas on Christmas Eve is a perfect time for photos! Each year you could have a different theme and everyone can help pick out the type of pajamas. This is a great time to bond with your family and spend some quality time together.

Take your kids shopping for a toy to donate.

‘Tis the season for giving! What better way to teach kids the true meaning of Christmas than to take them shopping to pick out a toy for someone less fortunate? There are many programs around the community where you can help a child in need or maybe they know someone personally who could use a little Christmas spirit this holiday season. Not only will they understand the importance of the holiday season, but giving and helping someone less fortunate is rewarding.

Make gingerbread houses with the whole family.

This is one activity that everyone will love. When it comes to creating gingerbread houses, there are endless possibilities. Whether you buy a gingerbread house kit or you are a do it yourself, kids and adults will be able to tap into their creative side and create a one of a kind creation. You can even create a village or a neighborhood with all of your houses.

Bake cookies with the kids.

This is a tradition that is a staple in many households. Not only is it a great way to get the kids involved, but it’s a tradition that is usually passed down from generation to generation. You can even make this more meaningful by using recipes that have been passed down. What’s better than spending time with your family and being able to enjoy delicious cookies at the same time?

Have a camp out one night under the Christmas tree.

There is something so magical about the Christmas tree and the lighting it provides. Why not create a pile of pillows and blankets and have a slumber party under the Christmas tree? You can even watch a marathon of Christmas movies and enjoy the delicious Christmas cookies you have baked.

Merry Christmas from Mission Bay

Here at Mission Bay, these are just a few of our favorite holiday traditions. We hope you have a great holiday season at your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks. With so many holiday events going on around the community, there is plenty to keep you and your family busy! We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving Traditions

Everyone has their own “way” of doing things, whether it’s the way you’ve done them for years, or it’s the way your mother has always done it. At Mission Bay, we believe that Thanksgiving is a great time to consider incorporating some new traditions into the holiday. The best waterfront homes at the Lake of the Ozarks has some fun new traditions that could change up the way you do Thanksgiving.

Take “personal time” before you spend the day with family.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful day that is filled with lots of family time - and we mean LOTS. While we all love family time, sometimes it can be extremely exhausting and overwhelming. This is why we suggest you take some time for yourself before all of your family arrives. By starting your day off this way, it could lead to a better day with family.

Have everyone write what they’re thankful for on a butcher paper tablecloth.
Talking about what you’re thankful for is a tradition that many families do. Why not take it up a notch and write down what you’re thankful for? Everyone can take turns and then you are able to save those memories that mean the most to you.

Let everyone make their own toast.
This is another way that people can show their emotion and give thanks. By letting everyone make their own toast, it brings everyone closer and lets people express their gratitude and feelings. So, have everyone raise their glass and toast to the year, to your family, and to your friends.

Let the kids help serve dessert.
Kids are always looking for ways to help, whether we want them to or not. Letting them help serve the dessert will keep them engaged and give them a sense of purpose. Whether they are toddlers or they’re older, you can put them in charge of serving the dessert after the meal.

Have Thanksgiving dinner at dinnertime.
A lot of families eat their Thanksgiving meal early in the afternoon and that’s totally acceptable. But why not make Thanksgiving dinner just that – a dinner? Not only does it slow down the entire day it gives you more time to cook and prep. Who wouldn’t like a few extra hours to complete the cooking? It also helps make the morning and afternoon more enjoyable.

Take a nice long walk after dinner.
Why not give yourself some time between dinner and dessert? No one can really eat dessert right after dinner anyways. After you finish dinner, take a long walk with your family! You will be able to enjoy the (weather permitting) cool, crisp fall weather and it will probably help your dinner settle. It may also make more room for pie – who wouldn’t want to eat more pie?

Remember loved ones who have passed.
Holidays are a great time to spend time with family, but they can be bittersweet for some. When you are missing family members or friends, celebrating that holiday can be tough. On these special holidays, take some time to remember those who have passed.

Stay connected with any family members far away.
If you live far away from your family members, why not spend Thanksgiving with them virtually? Traveling during the holidays is not only expensive, but it can also be stressful. If you’re not able to travel for the holiday, you can still eat dinner with them over Facetime or any video call service.

Happy Thanksgiving from Mission Bay
The best waterfront homes at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how special and important holidays are. Everyone at Mission Bay wants to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
