Winter Fun At The Lake Of The Ozarks

Lake of the Ozarks may be known for summer fun on the water, but what many don't know is, the area offers fun winter activities, great shopping and excellent restaurants all year long. Boats may be winterized, pool toys stashed for the season, and winter boots resting near your front door instead of flip flops, but that doesn't mean the Lake of the Ozarks can't be enjoyed during the winter as well. Even if you've got a "days until summer" countdown, Mission Bay wants you to enjoy the great lake atmosphere year round - we've put together a list of some of the best ways to have fun this winter at the Lake of the Ozarks!  

Shopping 

Shopping at the Lake of the Ozarks is a year round activity that shoppers travel near and far to enjoy. With several local specialty shops as well as the Osage Beach Premium Outlet Mall you're sure to find exactly what you're looking for. For lake area homeowners who spend a good deal of time on the water during the summer months, you may find that winter shopping is less congested and more fun - not to mention the great values on overstock summer items!

Bridal Cave

Bridal Cave is a gem of the Ozarks. Centuries ago the Osage Native American Indians discovered the pristine beauty that lies beneath Thunder Mountain in Camdenton, Missouri. Guided tours leave every few minutes and last approximately one hour. Park interpreters will lead you and your family through room afterr room of incredible mineral deposits. Bridal Cave tours can be enjoyed rain or shine, anytime of the year and your family is sure to have an adventure they will not soon forget! 


Get Air Trampoline Park

The newest attraction for lake area kids, Get Air Trampoline Park in Osage Beach, Missouri is a fun way to spend a blustery winter day. For toddlers, big kids and adults alike, you can jump your way to a great time for up to two hours at a time - snacks, drinks, and more can be found in the gift shop!

Dining and Nightlife at the Lake

Some of the best cuisine in the Midwest is served right here at the Lake of the Ozarks. From breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner, your appetite can be satisfied at a number of excellent establishments. Some of your favorite waterfront joints may be closed for the season but there is still a savoring selection to choose from. For evening entertainment you can find a hot spots throughout the area - live bands and karaoke are buzzing year round!

Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Local outdoorsmen/women know that Missouri weather is unpredictable, which to their advantage, means hiking during the winter months is a great way to enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks. Ha Ha Tonka State Park is a breathtaking scene of classic architecture and beautiful nature. The park features the stone ruins of a turn-of-the-20th-century castle built by a prominent Kansas City businessman atop a bluff. More than 15 miles of trails traverse the park, taking visitors to natural wonders and treasured spots leading to the Lake of the Ozarks.

Winter Hikes at Lake of the Ozarks

Many people think of Lake of the Ozarks as a Summer Destination, but the area also offers beautiful Winter scenery! We've already seen several warm days here at the Lake this year, so next time the sun is shining, why not go for a hike? Local parks offer more than two dozen different walking trails to choose from. The Lake Today has the details on some trails you should check out next time we see some more favorable weather!

Lake of the Ozarks State Park 


Built in the 1930s, the park was originally part of the National Park System and was turned over to the state in the 1940s. Lake of the Ozarks State Park encompasses more than 17,000 acres, features 30 miles of Lake shoreline and is the largest of Missouri's state parks. With more than 2 million patrons annually, it is also the most-visited park in Missouri. Lake of the Ozarks State Park features 12 different walking trails for you to enjoy!

Ha Ha Tonka State Park


Imposing architecture and breathtaking scenery combine to make Ha Ha Tonka State Park one of Missouri's most treasured spots. The park features the stone ruins of a 20th century castle built high atop a bluff. More than 15 miles of trails traverse the park, leading visitors to sinkholes, natural bridges, caves and down to the Lake!
