Holiday Entertaining at the Lake House

If you are lucky enough to have a home at the Lake of the Ozarks at Mission Bay, then you have a few options for hosting holiday gatherings.  What makes Mission Bay one of the best waterfront developments at the lake, is it's amenities it offers the residents. The large clubhouse has a full-sized bar, fireplace and plenty of room for entertaining guests.

For those opting for a more intimate affair, the homes at Mission Bay offer manicured grounds and vast lake views.  This provides a beautiful backdrop to any holiday event, even in the starkest of winters! Access to the development is easy, and offers plenty of parking for family and friends.

Tips to Get Started: Hosting your Holiday Event

Choose your date and make sure to get RSVPs!  Sending out invitations early enough to make sure your guests can pencil in your event is critical.  Online sites, such as www.evite.com allow you to email invitations. You can customize quirky responses for your guests to choose, to let you know if they are coming or not.

Themes can be a good way to stay focused.  Secret Santa, White Elephant, and Ugly Christmas Sweater parties can be a way to get everyone involved.  Everyone loves the hunt for the ugliest Christmas sweater.  If you do this, consider giving away a prize.

For buffet style get-together's, put drinks and food on opposite sides of the room. Spread out your "spread" so that guests don't get bottle-necked or stand in the same place all night.

Name cards can be fun and festive. You can make place card holders for your guests for sit-down dinners or labels for appetizers.  Get creative with items such as wine corks, candy canes, Christmas bells, or natural materials like pine or berries.

Greige is all the Rage in Paint Colors

Image from www.hgtv.com
Looking for the perfect paint color for your home?  Try Greige.  Gray and beige are undoubtedly two of the most popular neutral colors, so marrying them to create a lasting combination seems only logical.  This is the hottest trend right now for a perfect neutral palette, allowing you to add pops of color with accessories and furniture. If you prefer to keep your space warm, just use textures, such as wood and metal or accents of white, which all complement greige, without any bold colors.  Whichever blogs or social accounts you follow or belong to, you should be able to find boards, pins, posts, and photos on various ways to style greige. Search for #greige or #greigedesign to find a hue that fits your home.

Try Greige out.  Mission Bay offers several floor plans for both homes and townhomes.  If you are interested in being in a subdivision that offers lots of amenities with minimal maintenance and a convenient location, get started on your new home today at Lake of the Ozarks!

7 Tips to Get Your Home Ready for the Fall Season

Now that the excitement of summer is starting to die down, it's time to start preparing for fall. The leaves will start changing and along with them the weather. As with any change of seasons, now is a great time to catch up on some home maintenance. Here are 7 tips for getting your Lake of the Ozarks home ready for fall:

1. Clean Out the Gutters.

While the leaves haven't piled up yet, there are still other types of debris that could have collected in your gutters throughout the summer months. Now is the time to clear them out and examine for any damage to the downspouts or any loose pieces. Once the leaves start falling, you'll want to keep an eye on them to make sure they're not full of leaves when the snow starts coming down.

2. Change Your Filters.

It's important to change your air filters regularly, but it's one of those things that's easy to forget. The season change is a great reminder to replace it. Clean air filters will keep your family healthier in the fall months. You might also consider calling an HVAC company to come take a look at your heating system before the temperature drops. You don't want to get stuck with no heat on a cold night.

3. Check Windows and Doors for Drafts.

The majority of lost heat during the cooler months comes from open spaces around the windows and doors. Take a walk through your home and open the windows to ensure the seal and caulking is in good condition. You also might consider adding heavier curtains to help trap that heat in.

4. Fix Leaky Faucets.

If you have any leaks, you'll want to be sure and get them fixed before the temperature starts dropping. You don't want to end up with a busted pipe this winter. Plus it's a lot cheaper to fix a leak now than clean up after a bigger issue later.

5. Take Care of Your Yard.

If you want to prevent spring weeds and winter lawn damage, you'll want to put down some fertilizer before the ground starts to freeze. If you have an irrigation system installed, you might want to have a professional come take a look at it to fix any broken heads. Be sure to also drain water out of garden hoses and cap off the exterior spigots.

6. Prepare Your Fireplace.

If you have a fireplace, now is the time to get it ready to use. You'll want to discard any old ashes and check the damper handle and springs to ensure the flue is operating correctly. You might consider hiring a professional chimney sweep if needed.

7. Clean and Put Away Outdoor Furniture.

While you may want to save this for later into the season, you want to make sure to store your outdoor furniture before the snow starts falling. Be sure that you clean it up before you put it away though; you don't want to be dragging out dirty furniture in the Spring and ruin all your excitement.

By doing a little home maintenance at the beginning of the season, you'll be able to enjoy the beauty of fall. Mission Bay offers beautiful scenery, especially during the fall season. Stop by and see what our lovely Lake community has to offer. Our lake view and lakefront homes at the Lake of the Ozarks are just a 6 minute drive from Camdenton.
