Farmers Markets at the Lake of the Ozarks

Now that the weather is warming up, you probably want to enjoy being outside as much as possible. One activity that we have to do on a regular basis is buying groceries. Why not do this outside? One of the best things about summer is enjoying fresh produce, and there is no better place to find these items than at a local farmers market. Mission Bay has the details on a few farmers markets you can find in the area plus a few benefits of visiting a farmers market.

Camdenton Farmers & Merchants Markets

When: Saturdays
Time: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Camdenton Square

Vendors sell handmade products including, bread, pickled items, jellies, in-season produce, country crafts and other locally-grown items.

Osage Beach Farmers Market

When: Saturdays
Time: 9:00
Where: Osage Beach Premium Outlets

From seasonal produce and grass-fed meats to baked good and handcrafted items, you can expect great locally made items. Vendors set up at the Osage Beach Premium Outlets every Saturday.

Eldon Farmers Market

When: Fridays
Time: 3:00 - 6:30 PM
Where: Rock Island Park in Eldon

Vendors will have fresh eggs, local produce, salsa, jams, jelly, gluten-free items, organic soaps and other locally produced items for sale.

Sunrise Farm Market

When: Monday - Sunday
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Monday - Saturday) & 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Sundays)
Where: 14539 N. HWY 5 in Sunrise Beach

One of the best places to go for flower baskets. There are lots of garden metal art, wrought iron, pottery, produce, plants, locally-made items and more.

Benefits Of Farmers Markets

1. Fresh produce. The fruits, vegetables and other homemade items like bread and jelly are the freshest and tastiest available. The farmers can allow the produce to fully ripen and bring them directly to you. In addition, there is no long-distance shipping, no sitting in storage for weeks and stimulating the ripening process.

2. No pesticides. A lot of the food found in the grocery stores is highly processed and grown using pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and genetic modification. Most food found at the farmers market are minimally processed, and many farmers go to great lengths to grow the most nutritious (& tastiest) produce around.

3. Locally grown. When you visit the farmer's markets, you know exactly where your food is coming from, and in some cases, you'll even know the person who grew it! In addition, the more you go to the farmer's market the more you'll learn about our local farms and how the food is produced.

4. Enjoy seasonal foods. The food you find at the farmer's market is seasonal. During the summer, you can enjoy fresh produce that truly reflects this beautiful season.

Get there early for the best choices. Ask questions. Get to know your local vendors. After a few visits, you will know more about what you are looking for, and the farmers will know what you want and like. Having these wonderful markets so close to the Lake of the Ozarks waterfront development of Mission Bay is one more reason that this is a wonderful place to make your home.

Stay Safe In The Pool With These Tips

May is National Water Safety Month. This is a program designed to promote ways to stay safe while still having fun in the pool. During the summer, many people like to enjoy beautiful outdoor pool we have here at Mission Bay. However, we want to make sure you stay safe while enjoying it. Here are a few tips to help you have a safe and fun summer poolside.

1. Use the buddy system.

No matter what your age, it is always wise to have someone with you when you are in a pool.  If you get hurt or knocked unconscious, your buddy can get help right away.

2. Learn the rules for the pool you are using.

Most pool rules are very similar, but it is always wise to check. Rules are usually posted on the fence or wall near the entrance, and it only takes a moment to read through them.  If it's a new pool to you, there may be something important that you need to be aware of.

3. Teach children to stay away from water without an adult.

A child should never be near the water unsupervised.  An accident can happen in the blink of an eye. Teach them the dangers and to never go near water without first asking permission from the adult in charge.

4. Make sure there is a phone nearby.

If something happens and you need to call 911, you don't want to have to go very far to get help.  If there are only two of you, you may not be able to leave at all.  If the pool does not have a phone of its own, make sure that you have a charged cell phone with your belongings.

5. Know where the pool rescue equipment is located.

Every pool should have a shepherd's hook and a life preserver.  Using one of these to pull a drowning person out of the water is much safer than going in after them.  They could pull you under.  A quick glance around the pool when you first arrive should let you know where these items are kept.

6. Avoid entrapment.

Never use a pool if the drain cover is broken or missing.  Suction from pool drains can trap a swimmer underwater.  If the pool you are using does not look safe, report it and find someplace else to swim.

7. Don't run.

We've all heard lifeguards repeatedly yelling this phrase at children our entire lives.  Well, you grow up and realize that they weren't just trying to spoil the fun, but it's actually a very dangerous thing to run around a pool.  A small slip can lead to a very large gash in the head, or worse.  There should also be no pushing or horseplay for the same reasons, and if you are jumping or diving in, make sure that it's not against that pool's rules.  If the water isn't deep enough, it may not be safe.

8. Wear sunscreen.

Water isn't the only danger at an outdoor pool.  A sunburn is not a souvenir that you want from your day out.  A sunscreen with at least SPF 15 is suggested, even on a cloudy day.  It should be reapplied every 2 hours and after swimming and sweating.

Doing these things won't spoil any of your fun, and it assures that you will be around to have fun for many more days at the pool.  Mission Bay's homeowners have access to both our indoor and outdoor pools, as well as some beautiful park areas, a pond, and the gorgeous Lake itself.  When you live in one of our waterfront homes at the Lake of the Ozarks, there is plenty of outdoor fun right where you live.  Have a wonderful summer outside, and stay safe.

Bring Spring Into Your Home

Spring is officially in motion and summer is quickly approaching. Now is the perfect time to get your home at the Lake of the Ozarks decorated for the warm seasons. The Lake comes alive in the spring and your home should reflect that. If you need a little help redecorating your home for the new season, Mission Bay has a few tips on how to bring spring into your home.

Pair Down The Decorations

While this may seem contradicting, there's nothing that makes your home feel lighter than eliminating clutter. The weather can't make up its mind right now, so this is the perfect task to do during a chilly day. Decluttering allows you to focus your attention on the decor you have. When putting things away, think outside the box. It doesn't have to all be in plastic containers, you can use baskets, peg rails and hooks.

Introduce Some Color

Spring is the best time to introduce color into your home. Soft blues, pastel pinks and hints of lavender are all perfect spring colors to add to your decor. Use these spring colors by adding a light blanket or pillow on the couch, or add new wall decor in the living room.

Just Add Flowers

Just as the flowers are in bloom outdoors, bring some in as well. Fresh flowers add life to a dull room. Place some fresh cut, spring flowers in a beautiful vase and place them in the kitchen, living room, bedroom or deck. Wreaths aren't just for the holidays! Greet guests with a beautiful fresh wreath.

Change The Linens

One of the best ways to transition your home through the seasons is by changing the linens throughout your home. Switch your bedsheets from flannel to cotton and switch out your throw blankets and pillows for light, spring colored ones. It's an instant spring fix! In addition, you can replace the hand towels in your kitchen and bathroom with lightweight ones for spring.

 Spruce Up The Deck

Spring is a great time to spend your days and nights enjoying your outdoor space. Make sure it's a place you want to be. When decorating your home for spring, be sure to include your deck. Add some plants and flowers to the deck to make it really feel like spring has sprung. It may also be a good idea to replace the seat cushions on your deck chairs, especially if they have been left out over the winter season.

When you own a home in Mission Bay, you know you'll have a beautiful backdrop to work with when decorating your home. Our Lakefront and Lake view homes at the Lake of the Ozarks are designed for luxury living and the perfect place to make your waterfront living dream a reality.
