Ways to Add Unexpected Pops of Color

Decorating with bold colors can be quite a commitment. A commitment that some people may not be ready to make. We don’t blame you, it can be intimidating using bold colors on your walls or incorporating them into furniture pieces. If you’re not ready to make that commitment, then this blog is for you. Here at Mission Bay, we have put together a list of ways to creatively add pops of color into your lakefront home at Lake of the Ozarks without overdoing it.

The Accent Wall

Picking a wall to add a pop of color to is not only a great design feature, but it draws the eye in. An accent wall is a great choice because you have to only paint one wall and it’s easy to change. If you get bored of that color, try a different color. It’s not expensive and it could change the look of your whole space.

A Bold Door

This option is a little more unexpected than an accent wall. The hardest part would be choosing the correct door to paint. Careful not to get carried away, not every door in your house needs to be painted. Focus on one area of the house to start.

Painted Rail

Painting the railing on your stairs is a great way to spice up a simple space. No matter the color or style of your stairs, you can find a pop of color that compliments the area. If you are feeling really bold, you can even paint the stairs! Painting both the railing and the stairs, however, might be a little too over the top.

Frame a Window

This works really well in a space that is well lit. This can easily add a playful touch to any room. Adding a pop of color along with the natural light is a great way to brighten up a small space. If you’re hesitant, start with a smaller accent window first!

Colorful Fabrics and Trims

This works really well if you have straight edges on your furniture. This allows you to add a thick band of color to cushions without fully committing to an all over color. You can also add in color with decorative throw pillows. Pillows are easy to change out and they can really warm up a space and make it feel more inviting.

Furniture Trim

Putting a bold color in places that you are less likely to see all the time is a great trick to use. You can trim items like tables or chair legs in mini pops of color. It will feel less intrusive because you won’t notice these pops of color every time you look at these pieces of furniture.

Use Washi

If you are completely against incorporating pops of color with paint or fabrics, you can try using washi. You can use this stuff anywhere and everywhere. You can use it to frame art, make a faux molding on a door or trim your kitchen counter with it. The possibilities are endless and the good news is that it peels right off!

We hope you feel inspired after reading this! Try one, or even all of these fun ideas to add a pop of color to your lakefront home at the Lake of the Ozarks. With all of the great amenities provided, Mission Bay is a great year-round community. If you haven’t yet, come check us out and see what we have to offer!
