How To Host A Great Backyard Party

Summer is here, and with the Fourth of July happening soon, it's time to fire up the grill, get outside, and celebrate with friends and family.  Hosting a get-together in your backyard is a great way to do this.  Residents here at the best waterfront development at the Lake of the Ozarks have the gorgeous lakeside view and the amazing yards that make for a wonderful setting.  There is also an excellent picnic area with a large patio on the point available to everyone living here for these types of occasions.

Mission Bay would like to offer you a few simple tips to make your gathering one that your guests will be talking about for years to come.  With a little planning, a backyard party can be fun and fairly simple to put together.  The key is to do as much in advance as possible so that you have time to enjoy it yourself.

Food

Grilling is great for outdoor parties.  It's a quick trip between the grill and the table for transferring food, and there aren't a lot of pots and pans left to wash afterwards. Buffet-style is the easiest way to offer the food.  This will keep it all in one spot so that you only have to worry about keeping the bugs away from one area.  Food covers and food tents are great, and can usually be found at the local dollar store, so you can get plenty to cover everything.  Chips are perfect for outdoors because they can sit out all day without spoiling.  If you are serving cold items, make them the day before and refrigerate overnight.  When it's time to serve, you can place the cold dish in a larger dish full of ice to keep it chilled while people are eating.  Lots of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables are filling and healthy, and they can stay out for quite a while without worry.  An added bonus for those is that you just have to wash and cut them, no cooking involved!

Drinks

The most important thing about the drinks is that you can keep them cold.  Lots and lots of ice should be at the top of your shopping list.  You can fill a cooler with cans or bottles and let everyone help themselves.  Another option is to fill large containers with spouts with a variety of water, teas, lemonades, or punches.  Pitchers work too, but make sure that they can be covered.  Having sliced fruits nearby to add to drinks is a nice touch.  Keep a cooler full of ice just for putting in drinks next to the beverage table.  If you are using paper cups, have a permanent marker by them so that people can add their name and keep track of their own drink.

Comfort

You will be outside and in the sun.  Guests will greatly appreciate it if you have sunscreen and bug spray available.  Citronella candles are wonderful for deterring the bugs too.  A portable canopy tent is great for providing shade if you don't already have a lot in your backyard.  Even though the party is meant to be outside, make sure that you have a cool area in the house ready for guests that need to get out of the heat. Also, make sure that there is plenty of seating and table space for people to sit and eat.

Fun

While the food is cooking and after you eat, everyone will want something fun to do. There are plenty of games and activities for outside.  You can have a few balls and frisbees handy for tossing around.  Kids (and some adults) love bubbles, and since you're outside, the mess from a spill shouldn't be a problem.  If it's a 4th of July celebration, sparklers are always a fun firework that isn't terribly dangerous to play with.  Providing a few water balloons can be fun and keep everyone cool too.

Cleanup

If you opt for paper plates and cups and plastic silverware, cleanup is very quick and easy. Keep a large trash can or two in sight so that everyone can throw away used plates and scraps.  A lidded can works best for keeping the bugs from joining your party.  A separate can for recyclables is nice if you are serving canned or bottled drinks.  If you choose to use your own dishes, have a tub for guests to place their used items in near the trash can so that you can just grab it and carry it inside when you clean up.

Easy setup and cleanup are key words to throwing a party with little stress involved. Celebrating outdoors can be fun and casual.  Keep it simple and enjoy the time with your family and friends.  If you have the added benefit of living in one of our lake view homes at the Lake of the Ozarks, almost no decorations are needed.  The beauty of that gorgeous lake makes for a perfect party atmosphere.

Out of the Mouths of Dads

Remember all of those annoying things that your Dad used to say?     If you are now the father, you are most likely repeating the same phrases yourself.  For a little bit of Father's Day fun, we decided to share 10 of our favorites.

1. Don't tell your mother.

2. It's not worth doing unless you do it right.

3. Do you think I'm made of money?

4. It's not how much money you make, it's how much money you save.

5. When I was your age...

6. I will turn this car around.

7. A little dirt never hurt anybody.

8. You had to learn the hard way.

9. Because I said so.

10. GO ASK YOUR MOTHER

How many of these have you heard yourself?  As crazy as they all sounded at the time, there was very likely a lesson learned from each of them.  Dad's can be pretty wise, even when they don't realize it.

All of us here at  the Lake of the Ozark's waterfront homes of Mission Bay want to wish everyone out there a wonderful Father's Day weekend.  If your Dad happens to spout one of these gems this weekend, do your best to grin, bear it, and give him a great big hug.  He means well.

Celebrate National Homeownership Month with a Home at Mission Bay

June has been designated as National Homeownership Month.  This seems like a perfect time to write about the benefits of owning your own home at the best waterfront development at the Lake of the Ozarks, Mission Bay.  It's an absolutely beautiful place to live with an abundance of family friendly amenities, and it is located near many wonderful businesses and attractions.

National Homeownership Month was originally just celebrated for a week starting in 1995.  President George W. Bush decided to make it last the entire month of June 13 years ago in 2002.  His proclamation encouraged all Americans to learn more about financial management and take the time to explore the opportunities to own their own home in their community.  After all, owning your own home is a large part of the American Dream.

There are many benefits to home ownership.  Having a place to call your own gives you a sense of pride and a positive outlook toward the future from the economic security that it provides.  Successfully owning your own home is a wonderful credit-builder, and when taken care of properly will most likely increase in value.  Purchasing a home is one of the most important investments that you will make in your life.

Stunning Views

The gorgeous lakefront and lake view homes at Mission Bay are all beautifully tiered so that most have a stellar view of the magnificent Lake of the Ozarks.  We are located on the 32 Mile Marker of the lake, and the development is designed for year-round living.

Wonderful Amenities

The amenities available to our residents include an exquisite clubhouse with a heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, and hot tub.  There are multiple common areas, parks, and picnic areas for our residents to enjoy.  There are also community docks, and a 1400' seawall and lakefront cart path to allow easy access all around. The path has a large patio picnic area out on the point that is great for family gatherings.  The majority of the lots will accommodate flat driveways, which is not always the case for homes by the lake.

Conveniently located

We are in a wonderful location from which you can get most anywhere by car or by water quickly.  There are 6 different waterfront bars/restaurants within 3 miles by water, and the city of Camdenton is only 6 minutes away via Highway 5.  You will have quick, easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, salons, shops, and much more in Camdenton, and Osage Beach is a short 15 miles past that.

Our team here at Mission Bay would love to show you what we have to offer.  We host open houses every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 pm, and we'd be happy to arrange something else if that does not fit into your schedule.  There are both homes and lots available for purchase.  Contact us soon to take a look at our beautiful Lake of the Ozarks waterfront homes.

Display Your Photos In Your Home

People are taking photographs all of the time, especially since everyone nearly always has some type of digital device within reach.  The pictures may get uploaded and shared easily, but it's important to get at least the most special shots printed out.  These make wonderful decor for a house like the lakefront homes at the Lake of the Ozarks at Mission Bay.  They are great conversation starters, happy reminders of wonderful memories, and help to make your rooms look homey.

There are lots of ways to display these keepsakes.  Frames not only hold the pictures in place, but there are numerous varieties to match every design style.  Placing these on the wall can sometimes be a bit intimidating though.  Pinterest is an excellent place to search for different ideas on how to arrange frames on a wall.  Seeing a few different ideas can ease the worry of not liking the finished product because you have already seen it without making any holes in your own wall.

If you are the type of person that likes to change the look of your decor often, you may want display options that allow you to move your photos around.  A wall shelf is a perfect way to get your pictures up on the wall, but not permanently.  Even if they do not have a stand in the back, they can be leaned against the wall.  You can switch them out, move them to different rooms, and place odds and ends around them to match the style.

Bulletin boards or magnetic boards are good ways to put only one item directly onto the wall, then put all of your photos onto that item.  The photo above demonstrates how you could attach a sting somewhere and simply clip the your pictures to the string, making it super simple to change them out often.

A digital picture frame is the very best way to display pictures in your home but not have to actually print any of them out.  This offers a greater variety because it works as a slide show for lots of different photos.

Digital photography makes it easy to order your pictures online, and many of these online companies offer a wide variety of fun ways other than frames to show off your pictures.  You can have them printed directly into a photo book, eliminating the need for taking the time to place them into albums. Other choices include printing them on pillows, blankets, coffee mugs, phone cases, and so many other creative things.

There are so many, many ways to decorate your home with photographs and do it in a way that is different and fun.  Our beautiful waterfront development at the Lake of the Ozarks offers lots of great photo opportunities that would look wonderful on a wall:  splashing in the pools, playing at the parks, relaxing by the Lake...  Whatever you like to take pictures of, make sure to display a few of them so that others can enjoy them with you.
