Spring Cleaning Tips For The Kitchen

One room in the house that may look clean on the surface, but may secretly be lurking with hidden items that need to be cleaned is the kitchen. We often rush to put away groceries without taking the time to throw away the items that aren't good anymore. Sometimes the hardest part about conquering the kitchen chaos is not knowing where to begin. If you are in the midst of spring cleaning your Lake of the Ozarks home and need some tips on how to deep clean your kitchen, Mission Bay is here to help. Clear off the counter, wipe them clean and let's get started!

Cleaning The Pantry

Take out all the food in the pantry and place them on the table or countertop. Check the labels and toss the items that are expired, stale, inedible, etc. If there are any items that you know your family won't eat, set them aside for donation. Wipe down the shelves with soapy water or kitchen cleaner. When putting the items back into the cabinet, create a separate area for the open items, arrange like items together and put the oldest items in the front and the newest in the back.

Cleaning The Refridgerator

Next, empty the refrigerator and freezer and place the items on the table or countertop. Toss any items that are expired, moldy, inedible, etc. Wipe down the shelves with soapy water or kitchen cleaner. Remove the produce drawers and wash them well. Put the food back and arrange like items together. Remove any excess magnets and unneeded papers and clean and/or polish the exterior.

Organizing The Storage Cupboard

Remove all items from the storage cupboards or shelves and place items on countertop or table. As you're removing items, toss or donate any items that are broken, unwanted, unnecessary or that you haven't used in over a year. Set aside any seasonal items that only get used once or twice a year to be placed with other seasonal items in storage. Wipe down all shelves with soapy water or kitchen cleaner. Determine whether you can rearrange any of your storage areas to make your kitchen more efficient. When placing items back into the cupboards, group like items together.

Organizing The Storage Drawers

Remove all the items from the drawers and place on the counters or table. Just like with the cupboards, as you remove the items, toss or donate any items that are broken, unwanted, unnecessary or that you haven't used in over a year. Set aside any seasonal items that only get used once a year to be placed with other seasonal items in storage. Wipe down all drawers with soapy water or kitchen cleaner and wash any drawer organizers. Determine whether you can rearrange any of the storage drawers to make your kitchen more efficient. Group like items together when placing items back into the drawers.

Cleaning The Appliances

Wipe down the microwave inside and out. For the dishwasher, clean and/or polish the exterior. Don't forget, however, that the item that cleans the dishes also needs to be cleaned, so wipe down the inside of the dishwasher as well. Follow manufacturer's instruction for running the self-cleaning cycle on the oven, as well as, clean and/or polish the exterior. Clean and/or polish the stovetop, and wipe down small countertop appliances such as the toaster and blender.
